An idea…

This semester, I’m taking a class about literacy, which is actually much more interesting than you would think. So far we’ve been learning about how literacy is not just about reading and writing strictly, and any sort of discourse could be considered a literacy. For example, if you’re a doctor, you have a medical literacy because you would presumably be well acquainted with medical knowledge and would be able to utilize the practices and vernacular of that literacy better than someone who isn’t familiar with it.

Anyway, what I’ve come to realize in this class is that I’m still not satisfied with my film literacy. I might have better knowledge than some people about film because I’m learning how to analyze it, and I’ve watched many films on my own, but I still feel like I’m lacking. There are so many movies that I want to see (HAVE to see) and I wish I could just watch them all day and build up my knowledge—but I can’t. I have to do well in school and actually go to class, so there’s no way. So how can I improve my literacy and still have time for everything else?

I was thinking maybe I could set a goal for myself, like watch 365 movies in 365 days, and write about them here. I probably won’t do that many since I have so much to do for school and work and whatever else, so perhaps a better goal would be to see three movies a week and write a response to all of them by the end of that week?

That sounds like a much more realistic goal, and I could always watch more than that if I have the time. What do you all think?
