I just watched Enemy At the Gates (2001) last night. I had a feeling it would be awful or boring or both, but I had to watch it so I could get my next Netflix DVD. It didn’t disappoint.
Some parts of it were interesting. The relationship between Jude Law and Joseph Fiennes’s characters had the potential to be very interesting, but I think they dropped the ball on that one. Mostly, there wasn’t enough character development to make me really care about them, and the story dragged on waaay too long. Not to mention Law, Fiennes, and Rachel Weisz play Russians, despite being painfully British (but hey, they didn’t go for the cheesy accents, which I appreciate). And most puzzling of all, Ed Harris played a German sharpshooter. What? He’s about as American as you can get. Very weird.
Anyway, if you want to laugh, watch an awkward sex scene, and see Fiennes be a Bitter McBitterPants, then definitely give it a try.
